Welcome to Ludlow Street Cafe

Ludlow Street Cafe
is a small family business located in the lovely market town of Ludlow. Our ethos is to:

  • Work with the seasons;
  • Source locally, sustainably, and ethically;
  • Create things that people enjoy.

We have been here for over a decade, so we must be doing something right!

What we do

We make an appearance every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at the Ludlow Local Produce Market from 9am to 2pm.

We cook food-to-go, from a menu which includes house favourites and seasonal specials (such as griddled asparagus, winter soups or venison burgers).

All our ingredients are sourced from local retailers and producers, many from the Local Produce Market itself.

We usually have a vegan and/or vegetarian option, but also promote low-intensity reared, high welfare meats.

We also make a range of condiments, all of which are vegan and free from allergens (except the mustard, which contains gluten from the beer and mustard) with occasional limited-edition ones.

How to buy our condiments

You can buy our condiments directly from us on the stall, as well as:

Rhubarb Ketchup

Our Rhubarb Ketchup has been used on our stall to accompany our 100% Steak Burgers for many years.

After being asked by the 100th customer if they could buy some we decided to go into production.

It has a taste somewhere between Brown Sauce and Tomato Ketchup and can be used wherever you would use either, but also goes well with oily fish like barbequed salmon, or grilled sardines.

Less sweet than many commercial condiments it has a fruitiness that even those who are not big fans of rhubarb seem to enjoy.

Ludlow Gold Mustard

Ludlow Brewing Co. approached us several years ago to make them a decent mustard with their Ludlow Gold ale.

After much dabbling and consumption, and over 20 versions of the recipe, we now have an amazing pot of unique mustard.

It is a bit of a Goldilocks mustard, that is not as sweet as German beer mustards, not as hot as English mustards and not as bland as French mustards.

Our Ludlow Gold Mustard works a treat with our Brunch Baps, but also with cold meats, in cheese sauces and smeared on griddled aubergine.

Salop Sauce

Our lockdown project was to come up with Shropshire’s own version of our three-county neighbour’s sauce.

Not having a ready source of fresh anchovies (or indeed rotting ones, the base for a leading brand of Worcestershire Sauce) we instead turned to a local fruit, damsons, to give us the base of our creation.

 Using the old name for Shropshire, Salop Sauce made with Shropshire Prune damsons was the result – and we’ve found that it goes really well with venison, cheese, eggs, beans and to be honest, pretty much everything in our house!

It’s now been picked up by a number of other local producers to make their own products such as curry pastes and scotch eggs.

You can buy our condiments directly from us on the stall, as well as:

Alternatively, you can find us in various delis and farm shops in the Ludlow Marches area, including the Ludlow Brewing Co., Local to Ludlow HQ, shop and Café and Broad Bean.
